From Chicago to The Hill

Aidan B. Shannon joined the office of Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) as a special assistant on March 1, 2026. Shannon graduated from the University of Chicago in 2025 with dual bachelor's degrees in public policy studies and economics after interning for Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) during the summer of 2023.

The Office He Serves

Shannon joins an office with one of the most prolific legislative agendas in the upper chamber. In the 119th Congress alone, Sen. Markey has sponsored more than 100 pieces of legislation spanning climate and environmental policy, technology and artificial intelligence regulation, gun violence prevention, nuclear disarmament, health care, small business, and foreign policy.

Markey also serves as ranking member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, where he has been active on legislation related to tariff relief for small businesses and SBA program reauthorizations. His committee assignments additionally include the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
