From Press Secretary to Communications Director
Ben Deeter has stepped into the role of communications director for Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IA), beginning his position on June 1. Deeter previously held the position of press secretary in the office of Rep. John W. Rose of Tennessee, and is well-positioned to take on the responsibility of handling Yakym's communications: before beginning his career on the Hill, Deeter worked as a radio talk show host and news anchor for Starnes Media Group.
Yakym, a Republican representing Indiana's 2nd congressional district, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. Yakym has also championed H.R. 9719, the Federal Lands Lawful Carry Act, introduced on July 16. The legislation would authorize possession of firearms in certain federal lands and facilities managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Forests, National Parks, and National Wildlife Refuges. The bill has drawn support from fellow Republicans.
