Why It Matters
CFFE PAC, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy's political action committee, reported $5.32 million in outside spending, primarily supporting Democrats, including Sherrod Brown in Ohio and Troy Jackson in Maine, while opposing Republican incumbents Jennifer Kiggans (R-VA) and Susan Collins (R-ME).
The group is also expanding into Texas, joining the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Victory Fund in a $750,000 field-organizing initiative supporting Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. CFFE PAC advocates affordable caregiving, health care and paid family leave.
What It Spent
CFFE PAC is a hybrid PAC that reported $3.6 million in receipts, $1.54 million in disbursements, and $2.27 million in cash on hand through Aug. 31. Its periodic summary lists no independent expenditures, while separate outside-spending disclosures show $5.32 million through Oct. 6.
Where the Money Went
CFFE PAC reported $829,688 supporting Brown's Ohio Senate campaign and $647,793 supporting Jackson's Maine Senate bid.
Three House candidates received $425,000 in support each: Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Paige Cognetti in Pennsylvania's 8th District and Janelle Stelson in Pennsylvania's 10th District.
The committee spent $88,087 opposing Rep. Jennifer Kiggans (R-VA) and $30,631 opposing Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME).
According to Politico Playbook, CFFE PAC and LCV Victory Fund are jointly investing $750,000 to expand field organizing for Talarico, working with United Steelworkers to knock on more than 80,000 doors. Separately, FEC-derived records list $224,380 in CFFE PAC spending supporting Talarico through Oct. 4.
Who Funds It
Major contributors include Pivotal Ventures ($2 million), Opportunity Action Fund ($750,000), Government That Works PAC ($250,000), Green Advocacy Project ($250,000) and Children's Equity Fund ($100,000).
The Ad Buy
CFFE PAC reported a $564,063 canvassing estimate supporting Brown, payable to OTG Strategies, on Sept. 4. Additional OTG Strategies estimates included $378,405 supporting Stelson and $359,743 supporting Cognetti, both dated Sept. 22. A $79,350 digital advertising estimate opposed Kiggans, while a $78,890 digital advertising and production estimate supported Jackson.
Other Spenders in the Same Races
Other reported spending in Kiggans' race included HMP ($1.36 million), Giffords PAC ($921,967), and DMFI PAC ($900,000). In Collins' race, reported spending included Stronger Maine ($1.13 million), Lead Maine Committee ($985,633), and SLF PAC ($625,939). The direction of those expenditures was not established.
