In a seemingly unproductive Congress marked by bipartisan gridlock, cosponsoring legislation is more important than ever for advancing effective bills with accompanied support from both sides of the aisle. Of the members of Congress who follow suit, 82.5% of Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1)'s cosponsored legislation comes from the other party, followed by Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. (R-NJ-7) at 80.6% and Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22) at 80.3%. Of the 10 Congressmen with the largest percentage point, seven are Republicans, while three are Democrats. Of the same group of 10, four are Senators, while the other six work within the House of Representatives.
In 2024, Fitzpatrick was named "Most Bipartisan Member of Congress" by the Lugar Center for the fifth consecutive year in a row. In a press release from his office, Fitzpatrick said, "Bipartisanship is the only remedy that will save and heal our nation... If one chooses bipartisanship and seeks to build bridges with those who think differently, they are part of the solution."
