From Staff Director to Counsel

The House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party continues to focus on U.S.-China competition issues as the Chinese economy becomes stronger, and Dave Hank has been promoted to the position of Counsel to the Chair of the committee. As Counsel, Hank works under the chairmanship of Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI-2). He previously served as Staff Director for the committee from January 2023 to December 2025 before transitioning into his current counsel role, and has 15 years of congressional service across multiple offices and committees. From 2008 to 2017, he worked as Military Legislative Assistant and Counsel for Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). During that same period, from October 2014 to January 2017, he also served as National Security Counsel for the Republican Whip in the Senate. Beyond his Senate work, Hanke served as a Professional Staff Member for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence from 2017 to 2019.

The House Select Committee Strategic Competition has maintained an active schedule of hearings and events. The committee has held numerous hearings in the 119th Congress covering various aspects of U.S.-China competition across multiple policy areas. In April 2026, the committee held a hearing titled "China's Campaign to Steal America's AI Edge," and in March, the committee held a hearing titled "From the Science Lab to the Medicine Cabinet: How China Is Cornering the Market on Our Medicines."
