New Role on Capitol Hill
Desiree Sedillo has been appointed to the position of legislative correspondent for Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) as of July 1.
This is not Sedillo's first professional experience on the Hill, or working for Luján. In 2023 and 2024, Sedillo served first as a congressional intern in Luján's office, and then as state staff assistant.
Sedillo holds a master's in social work with a focus on policy and administration from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice and a bachelor's degree in political science and government from the University of New Mexico.
The Office She Helps Run
Luján currently serves on the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, the Senate Budget Committee, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Within the Agriculture Committee, Luján holds the position of ranking member on the Food and Nutrition, Specialty Crops, Organics and Research Subcommittee.
Luján has also been active in introducing legislation across his committee jurisdictions. In mid-July, he sponsored the Judicial Ethics and Transparency Act, which prohibits Federal judges from receiving certain gifts.
