From Intern to Director
Jordan-Isaiah Toyos has stepped into a new position as Southern Arizona Director in the office of Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), beginning July 1. The move represents a shift within Arizona's Democratic delegation, as Toyos was previously working in the personal office of Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ).
His congressional career began as a Staff Assistant in Sen. Mark Kelly's office from December 2023 to January 2025. He then moved to Sen. Gallego's office as an Executive Assistant and Driver from January 2025 to November 2025, before transitioning into his current position as Southern Arizona Director.
Earlier in his career, Toyos interned in the office of Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ-7) from January to May 2019, giving him exposure to Arizona's delegation across both chambers.

As Southern Arizona Director, Toyos works in Sen. Gallego's personal office.
Kelly has sponsored legislation on artificial intelligence consumer protections, service program participation, and environmental issues including wildfire risk assessments and water infrastructure projects. The senator also sits on the Armed Services Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Special Committee on Aging.
His education in human rights and politics, combined with his hands-on experience in multiple Senate offices, positions him to handle the complex constituent and policy work that comes with a director role.
