From Illinois to North Carolina
Meryl Harold has been named chief of staff in the office of Rep. Deborah K. Ross (D-NC). Harold assumed the position on April 1, 2026, bringing more than eight years of Capitol Hill experience to the role.
Previously, she served as deputy chief of staff and legislative director for Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-IL) from October 2023 until her move to Ross's office. Before that, Harold held the position of legislative director for Sorensen from January 2023 to September 2023.
Her earlier experience includes roles in the office of Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN). Harold served as policy adviser there from January 2021 to January 2023, and previously as legislative assistant and health policy fellow from October 2019 to January 2021. She also completed a brief stint as a policy fellow in Craig's office in October and November 2019.
Harold's congressional service began as a legislative fellow in the office of Rep. James A. Himes (D-CT) from January 2018 to August 2019. In total, Harold has accumulated more than eight years of experience across multiple Democratic offices. She also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from George Washington University's Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, and a BA in international affairs from the same university.
The Office She Helps Run
In her capacity as chief of staff, Harold oversees operations for Ross's office while working on policy areas including abortion, crime and law enforcement, and labor and employment. Ross serves on multiple House committees, including the Judiciary Committee, the Science, Space and Technology Committee, and the Ethics Committee.
