Why It Matters

Red Senate, a Costa Mesa, California-based super PAC, is directing its independent expenditures to support Republican Senate candidates and oppose Democrats and independents. Its largest investment supports Republican Kenneth Paxton Jr. in Texas, while its principal opposition target is Abdul El-Sayed in the open-seat Michigan U.S. Senate race. The committee is also active in Maine, where Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) is seeking re-election.

The committee's website describes its mission as electing "true conservatives" to the U.S. Senate. Its stated priorities include lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, traditional values, strong national security, and Second Amendment rights. Its spending reflects a conservative electoral agenda focused on electing Republican senators and opposing Democratic candidates.

Red Senate's activities span several competitive Senate contests, including Michigan and Maine, where national Republican and Democratic organizations are spending heavily. Although its expenditures are substantially smaller than those of major national committees, its advertising adds another conservative-aligned voice to races attracting extensive outside spending.

What It Spends

Red Senate has reported approximately $616,000 in independent expenditures this cycle, including about $336,000 supporting Republicans and $280,000 opposing Democrats and independents. Its largest investments have focused on the Texas and Michigan Senate races.

The committee's reported spending supporting Republicans includes:

  • Kenneth Paxton Jr., Texas U.S. Senate: Approximately $199,000 supporting Paxton.
  • Michael Rogers, Michigan U.S. Senate: Approximately $111,000 supporting Rogers.
  • Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME): Approximately $20,000 supporting Collins.

The committee also reported smaller expenditures targeting other Democratic candidates, including Annie Andrews, Roy Cooper, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Elissa Slotkin, Angela Alsobrooks and Jon Ossoff. Some payments made during the current cycle settled advertising obligations tied to the 2024 elections rather than new ads for the Nov. 3 general election.

The Ad Buy

Red Senate has used video advertising, digital placements and media production to support Republicans and oppose Democratic candidates. Its reported vendors include Disney Advertising, IF IT IS LLC, Google and Hulu.

Earlier payments dated Jan. 15, 2025, settled advertising estimates from the previous election cycle. Hulu received $15,000 for advertisements opposing Allred, $12,000 opposing Tester and $10,000 opposing Brown, all associated with estimates dated Oct. 11, 2024.

The committee's outside spending includes approximately $468,000 disclosed through 24- and 48-hour independent-expenditure notices. Those notices supplement its regular financial reports and provide more recent information about its advertising activity.

Who Funds It

Red Senate reported $859,445 in receipts, $1.04 million in disbursements and $153,120 in cash on hand through Oct. 14. Individual contributions accounted for approximately $543,000, or 63% of total receipts.

Holtzman Vogel, a law firm specializing in political and election law, contributed $110,000, making it one of the committee's largest organizational contributors. Other major organizational contributors include At-Bay Insurance, which made several contributions, and Jassy Vick Carolan LLP, a California law firm. Among individual contributors, Donald E. Wasek gave $35,000, Richard Fox contributed $17,500, and James Hull and James Kennedy each contributed $10,000.

The committee's financial backing includes individual contributors and organizations involved in legal services, insurance, and other industries. Its donor base reflects a combination of individual and organizational funding, with Holtzman Vogel accounting for approximately 13% of reported receipts.
