From District Intern to Operations Director

Savannah Smallwood took on the position of operations director for Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN-2) beginning April 1, 2026 after nearly a year serving as the office's D.C. scheduler. Smallwood first joined the office as a district intern in 2023 and worked as a field representative from May 2023 through June 2025 before moving to Washington as the office's D.C. scheduler, Smallwood graduated from St. Mary's College in Indiana, where she earned her Bachelor's in political science and sociology, with a concentration in criminology.

The Office She Helps Run

Yakym's office is one of the busier member operations on the House side of the Capitol. Rep. Yakym previously sat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and now sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, and the House Budget Committee, along with a combined seven subcommittees and task forces across those assignments — and his portfolio covers an enormous range of policy terrain. Yakym has introduced 23 pieces of legislation in the current 119th Congress, with one bill — H.R. 573, the Studying NEPA's Impact on Projects Act — having already passed the House and been received in the Senate, where it was referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
