Henry McMaster appointed Darline Lettie Graham Nordone to fill the Senate vacancy of her late brother Lindsey Graham, and she was sworn in as a U.S. Senator on July 14. Nordone is the first woman to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate and has announced she will seek a full Senate term. The appointment has raised controversy, with critics calling it her bid to hold the seat for a full term a "sinister" move. The appointment was made on the recommendation of President Donald Trump.
Nordone now sits on the Judiciary Committee alongside its chair, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), as the panel processes the administration's judicial slate.
