From CIA to Senate
Mark Stewart joined the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) as majority general counsel effective Oct. 1, working under chair Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).
Previously, Stewart served a senior executive for the CIA from May 2021 to Feb. 2023, and as the general counsel on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) from February 2017 to November 2018, as well as assistant general counsel for the CIA from Nov. 2009 to Feb. 2017.
Cotton chairs the SSCI and also sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Recently, the committee's Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027 (S.4615), reported by Cotton's panel and placed on the Senate calendar, has drawn lobbying activity from nine organizations, including Palo Alto Networks, RTX, Lockheed Martin, and Amazon.
