Why It Matters
The House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on July 21 to examine security failures at Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.
The hearing will focus on front gate security failures and broader Veterans Affairs security deficiencies that have exposed the department's vulnerability to unauthorized access and potential threats. With multiple organizations lobbying on VA operational issues, including staffing and mental health services, the subcommittee's examination of police and security gaps comes as Congress scrutinizes the department's ability to protect veterans on its own grounds.
Lobbying Activity on VA Issues
Several organizations have reported lobbying Congress on issues affecting VA operations.
LUKE reported lobbying expenditures of $100,000 and $150,000 during the third and fourth quarters of 2025, focusing on VA staffing and mental health services.
InSightec Inc. reported consistent lobbying activity on medical device regulation and use within the VA, filing $90,000 disclosures during the third and fourth quarters of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs reported lobbying on health and safety improvements at VA facilities, including $60,000 during the third quarter of 2025 and $50,000 during the fourth quarter.
The National Association for Biomedical Research reported $15,000 in first-quarter 2026 lobbying related to continued funding for biomedical research at the VA.
