Why It Matters

STACK Infrastructure Inc. is lobbying on data centers and power demand as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued show-cause orders to all six regional grid operators in June, directing them to justify or reform electricity tariffs for large loads including data centers.

Rep. Greg Landsman's (D-OH) No Harm Data Centers Act, (H.R. 8033 states that data centers should bear grid-system costs rather than shifting them to residential and small commercial customers.

By the Numbers

The third-quarter 2026 filing reports $200,000 in lobbying income. Spending is also up $90,000 from the $110,000 reported in the third quarter of 2025. The $200,000 figure is the highest single-quarter amount across the eight quarters on record for STACK Infrastructure.

All work runs through Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. The third-quarter 2026 team lists four lobbyists:

  • Zach Deatherage, policy adviser, former House staffer for Reps. Steve Womack (R-AR-3), Ashley Hinson (R-IA-2), Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21), and Ralph Lee Abraham (R-LA-5)
  • Truman Reed, policy adviser, former staffer for Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Reps. Don Young (R-AK-0) and Monica De La Cruz (R-TX-15)
  • Reggie Babin, senior counsel, former staffer for Rep. Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-2) and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee
  • Richard Coppola III, policy adviser, prior government experience listed

Broader Context

FERC's June 18 show-cause orders to all six regional grid operators ask them to justify or reform tariffs for data centers and other large electricity users. Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY-20) introduced H.R. 8241, the Power for the People Act of 2026, on April 9; it was referred to House Energy and Commerce with 27 cosponsors and no further action recorded. Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH) introduced H.R. 8033, the No Harm Data Centers Act, on March 20; the bill text says data centers should bear grid-system costs rather than shifting them to residential and small commercial customers, and no later committee or floor action is recorded. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced S. 3852, the GRID Act, on Feb. 11, referred to Senate Energy and Natural Resources. H.R. 6983, the Preventing Rate Inflation in Consumer Energy (PRICE) Act, introduced Jan. 8, would require data centers to generate the electricity they consume.

The White House announced the Ratepayer Protection Pledge in March, a commitment by participating technology companies to protect consumers from electricity-price increases tied to data-center energy requirements. A May Congressional Research Service report estimates U.S. data centers consumed about 176 terawatt-hours of electricity in 2023, equal to 4.4 percent of national use, with some projections showing consumption could double or triple by 2028.

Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA-7) visited STACK Infrastructure's facilities in Georgia on Aug. 20, 2026, calling data centers critical to the economy and discussing STACK's investments and job creation.

The Bottom Line

STACK Infrastructure's quarterly lobbying spend rose from $80,000 in the fourth quarter of 2025 to $200,000 in the third quarter of 2026, its highest listed level.
