The association's in-house lobbying team includes Michele Stanley, president and CEO, and government affairs directors Adam Pugh and Evan Bender. Stanley previously spent approximately nine years working in the House, including with the House Homeland Security Committee. Pugh worked for Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) for approximately four years. Bender spent about seven years in the House, serving on the staffs of Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) and Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas).

NSSGA also retained outside lobbying firms. GrayRobinson PA reported $20,000 in lobbying income from the association during the second quarter, while Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP reported an additional $20,000. Combined, NSSGA reported $440,000 in lobbying expenditures across its four quarterly filings over the past year, while its outside firms reported an additional $160,000 in lobbying income during the same period.

The Agenda

NSSGA continues to focus its federal advocacy on infrastructure funding and regulatory policy. According to its disclosures, priorities include Highway Trust Fund reauthorization, surface transportation reauthorization, Federal-aid Highway Program authorization, Waters of the United States regulations and policies affecting aggregate byproducts.

The association has also maintained an active congressional outreach strategy. Rep. Mark Amodei (R-Nev.) participated in the group's annual Hill Day. Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) met with association representatives in Washington to discuss construction materials used in infrastructure projects. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) met with Iowa members to discuss industry priorities. Rep. Nicholas Langworthy (R-N.Y.), co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Aggregates Caucus, received the association's Rock Star Award.
