From Staff Assistant to Scheduler
Kate Dreyer has been promoted to scheduler in the office of Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL-3), a move that caps a steady rise through the Alabama congressman's personal office.
Dreyer has spent nearly all of her congressional career in Rogers' office. She joined as a staff assistant in January 2024, was promoted to legislative correspondent in March 2025, and now steps into the scheduler role as of May 1 of this year. Before joining Rogers' team, she completed an internship in the office of Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX-36) from August 2023 through January 2024.
Dreyer is a Texas A&M University graduate, holding a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics and agricultural communications and journalism, earned between 2019 and 2023.
The Office She Supports
Rogers is one of the more consequential members in the House Republican conference. He chairs the House Armed Services Committee, and also sits on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee, along with a range of subcommittees under each.
On the legislative front, Rogers' most prominent work this Congress centers on defense. Rogers sponsored and introduced the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, which passed the House and was received by the Senate in September 2025. He has also introduced the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, which has been referred to the Armed Services Committee. Beyond defense, Rogers has introduced legislation to modify the boundaries of the Talladega National Forest and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Parity Act.
Rogers has also made headlines beyond his legislative work. He publicly criticized fellow House Republicans who opposed Ukraine funding in April 2024, calling some colleagues "ignorant" and others "stupid" in remarks to the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, per AL.com. More recently, he blasted the Trump administration over what he described as a lack of transparency regarding U.S. military operations in Iran, and joined Senate Armed Services Chairman Roger Wicker in opposing a proposed withdrawal of Army rotational forces from Romania.
Upcoming Committee Activity
As the scheduler role puts Dreyer at the head of Rogers' daily schedule, the congressman's committees have a busy stretch ahead.
The House Homeland Security Committee has two hearings scheduled this week. A full committee hearing on TSA modernization is set for May 20, and the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection is scheduled to take up state and local cybersecurity threats on May 21.
The Armed Services Committee, which Rogers chairs, completed a hearing on military readiness for fiscal year 2027 in April and an FY27 strategic forces posture hearing in March.
