Why It Matters

The Senate Finance Committee will review four Treasury Department nominations on Thursday, July 16, as the administration fills out the department’s economic and international policy team. According to Treasury, Francis Brooke is already performing the delegatable duties of Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, and his confirmation would formalize a role that sits near the center of day-to-day department operations.

The Big Picture

The Senate Finance Committee will consider four Treasury Department nominations: Francis Brooke, Erin Browne, Sriprakash Kothari, and George McMaster. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) chairs the committee, and Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) is the ranking member.

Francis Brooke, of Virginia, is nominated to be Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and is replacing Michael Faulkender. Brooke previously served as acting under secretary for international affairs and as assistant secretary for international trade and development. He also spent nearly four years as policy director for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.

Erin Browne, of New York, is nominated to be Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, while Sriprakash Kothari, of Massachusetts, is nominated to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy. The committee notice lists Kothari as replacing Benjamin Harris, who resigned, and says Browne would replace Jay Curtis Shambaugh, who also resigned.

George H. McMaster II, of South Carolina, is nominated to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Markets, replacing Joshua Frost. Treasury says McMaster previously worked at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs and performed the delegatable duties of the office from July 2025 through April 2026.
