From Fleischmann's Office to House Defense Policy Staffer

Heath Taylor has joined the U.S. House of Representatives as a Military Legislative Assistant, a congressional staff change that places him at the center of the House's defense and military personnel policy work. The Heath Taylor House staff addition comes as the House Armed Services Committee has been active on a range of military readiness, personnel, and posture issues in the 119th Congress.

Taylor's title as Military Legislative Assistant signals a portfolio focused on armed forces policy, military personnel, and defense matters. His work as House of Representatives staff puts him in close proximity to legislation moving through the Armed Services Committee, including bills addressing military disability evaluations, service member transition support, and housing oversight.

Taylor's path to this House defense policy staffer role runs through a prior stint on Capitol Hill. He served as a Staff Assistant in the office of Rep. Charles J. "Chuck" Fleischmann (R-TN-3) from January 2019 to September 2019. Fleischmann is also a cosponsor of the Military and Educational Data Integration Act (H.R. 1573), a bill that would create a data-sharing system between the DoD and state education agencies to track outcomes for high school graduates who enlist.

Taylor holds a BA in political science and government from The Citadel, where he studied from 2011 to 2015.
